Museum Bandung: Honouring the Contributions of the Overseas Chinese Community

Nestled in the cultural heart of Bandung, Indonesia, Museum Sejarah Etnis Tionghoa stands as a refined tribute to the enduring legacy of the Chinese-Indonesian community. Upon completion, it is set to become the largest Chinese diaspora museum in Asia—an ambitious cultural landmark reflecting both historical depth and contemporary relevance.

Within its walls, visitors are guided through a thoughtful historical journey: from classical Chinese traditions to the remarkable individuals who have shaped Indonesia’s social, cultural, and economic landscape.

Commissioned by Yayasan Dana Sosial Priangan Bandung, the museum is more than an institution—it is a celebration of heritage, identity, and contribution across generations.

For this project, we were entrusted to supply and integrate materials as part of the spatial design narrative. The selected tones were curated to echo the warmth and elegance of traditional Chinese design—long associated with harmony and timeless craftsmanship. Subtle grain patterns and natural hues were chosen to create a grounded, immersive atmosphere, allowing each exhibition to unfold within a setting that feels both authentic and enduring.

The result is a space where material, culture, and story come together seamlessly—honoring the past while presenting it with quiet sophistication. Here, design does not compete with history; it frames, supports, and ultimately elevates it.
